Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. It often begins with a tingling, itching, or burning sensation on one side of the body or face, followed by the appearance of red, blistering rashes. The rash typically forms in a band-like pattern along the nerves and can cause intense pain. Other symptoms may include fever, headache, fatigue, and sensitivity to light. The blisters may eventually scab over after several days. In some cases, even after the rash heals, lingering pain, known as postherpetic neuralgia, may persist. Early treatment is essential to reduce symptoms and complications.
